NEW! Baby-signing Mamas

Babies can control their arm and hand movements well before their vocal chords and tongue are able to form words. Signing can ease the frustration of figuring out what your child wants! Please share your stories, advice, or questions!

Danielle--I agree. My cousin is deaf, that was my original motivation. :)

I am due in June and can't wait to start signing with my baby. I already have a baby signing book that my mom got me for Christmas. My Grandfather is deaf and I am the only grandchild out of 9 that can sign enough to have a conversation with him. To me signing is more than being able to communicate with my child but also teaching him how to communicate with his great-grandfather and the deaf community.

What great group to have!!! I think signing is excellent way for babies an toddlers communicate when can't always vocalize what they want. My son is delayed in speech( becoming better now),but signing a couple basic signs helped wonders an he took to very quickly. Thanks for the great group fenny!!!

I love the sign for "Thank you." Reagan was so good about using it too - people just thought he was blowing them kisses! It works either way.

That's so funny, Mary! My son did that too! The signing practically stopped, though, around 3 years old. We're re-introducing it now so that he can help w/ our baby girl.

We started signing with our son when he was about nine months old. What a life saver! My husband and I agree that our ability to sign saved us innumerable moments of frustration. Now our little guy is 2 yr 2 months and talks quite well...but he still uses signs for emphasis (eg, if I'm slow to respond to his request, he'll say the word AND use the sign, just in case I didn't get it!).
